Ethics and Governance

This CLE/CPE will examine recent developments in accounting, legal, tax, and business ethics. We will examine current issues in business and recent pronouncements of the AICPA and ABA as well as other authoritative guidance. Topics may include decision-making, data privacy, cybersecurity, non-attest services provided by CPAs, and recent discussions about shareholder/stakeholder theory.

Learning Objectives:

  • Examine current ethical issues in business
  • Review recent AICPA guidance on non attest services
  • Identify ethical issues posed by working from home during the coronavirus pandemic
  • Analyze recent ABA guidance on representation adverse to former prospective clients

Presenters

Abbas Ali, Ph.D. joined the School of Business Administration in fall 2013. Previously, he taught for the School of Management at the New York Institute of Technology.  He earned his doctorate degree in Management from the School of Management and Labor Relations at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.  His dissertation addressed Stakeholder Management and he continues to explore stakeholder management and its benefits for businesses.  He has published in such journals as the Journal of Workplace RightsAdvances in Industrial and Labor RelationsJournal of Occupational Rehabilitation, and Monthly Labor Review.

Jonathan D. Grossberg, J.D., LL.M. (Taxation), is a licensed attorney in Pennsylvania and New York. Jonathan currently lives in Wynnewood, PA. He was an assistant professor of taxation at Robert Morris University (RMU) in Moon Township, PA. At RMU, Jonathan taught Taxes II to undergraduate accounting students and tax research, corporate tax, and international tax to graduate students in the master of science in taxation program. Before entering academia, Jonathan clerked for Judge Gale of the U.S. Tax Court and practiced tax law at Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP in Philadelphia and Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP in New York. Jonathan has written articles for academic and practitioner publications and made CLE/CPE presentations to lawyers and accountants on a variety of topics, including judicial doctrines in tax law, partnership tax, tax issues facing small businesses, and universal basic income, among other topics.

Jonathan D. Grossberg is an active member of the Accountant-Lawyer Alliance (ALA). He serves as a Speciality Leader in the ALA’s Tax and Compliance LinkedIn Group, where he acts as a subject matter expert, content moderator, and liaison with the business community. He periodically lectures on tax topics in the ALA’s continuing education programs for certified public accountants and attorneys. Jonathan also serves as a member of the ALA’s Advisory Board.
