Mind Your Business: Growth in the New Normal

The Accountant-Lawyer Alliance (ALA) is partnering with Premier Payroll Services to bring you another segment in our exclusive, invite-only event featuring three local professionals speaking on hot-button issues relevant to today's small business. This 4-credit CPE/CLE course will focus on growing your business in the face of recent changes in how work is done and expectations of clients.  Our speakers will provide an in depth understanding of different approaches when it comes to changing demands in service offerings, cyber security, and remote work.  This small business series will help you adapt and grow in the new normal.

Topic: Growing Your Practice with Financial Services

In this day and age, industry and market forces are driving more and more accounting firms to offer financial services.  Clients want their accountants to offer financial services, and the profession has embraced this.  There are several factors that holding accountants back from expanding their services - yet there are many benefits to accountants who embrace the expansion of financial services into their practices.  This presentation will give you ideas and insight on how to grow your practice with financial services and make it a win-win for both you and your clients.

Craig J. Schafer CPA, LUTCF, CAP, is a Senior Partner at 1847 Financial. Mr. Schafer is a Certified Public Accountant, Life Underwriting Training Council Fellow, Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy, Life and Health Insurance Agent, Series 6 Investment Company Products/Variable Contracts Limited Representative, Series 7 General Securities Representative, Series 63 Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, Series 65 Uniform Investment Advisor and Investment Advisor Representative. Craig is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University from which he holds a Bachelor of Science degree.

Topic: Cyber Security, Cyber Insurance, and Risk Management – What is changing and what you need to know

Insurance Companies are experiencing huge losses on Cyber Insurance Policies over the past few years, and have made significant changes in their policy writing and coverages.  We will be discussing what new Cyber Security protections they are recommending (Read: Mandating) and what impact it might have on your premiums.

Speaker: Chris Schalleur

Chris Schalleur founded Christo IT Consulting in 1999 to provide the type of professional IT support larger companies enjoy to small businesses in the Philadelphia region. Applying his experience working in marketing and sales, as well as IT and engineering at firms such as Honeywell, Primavera, and Microtrac, Chris quickly built a reputation for superior IT services for small businesses.

Chris has been a leader in the Philadelphia region for small business IT services. With encouragement from Harry Brelsford of SMB Nation and Microsoft, Chris started the Small Business Server (SBS) Philly User Group in 2006. The group is comprised of IT professionals in the Philadelphia region who serve small businesses. They are dedicated to improving best practices, learning about new technologies, and increasing customer awareness in the region.

Chris is a graduate of Villanova University. He has been a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer since 1998.

Topic: Remote Work

One of the greatest impacts that COVID-19 had was the way people work.  Remote work is possible, plausible, and even expected.  In this session – we will look at Remote Work from an HR perspective, and work through strategies on how to address the myriad of questions it presents.  The goal is happy and productive employees – whether they are in the office or working remotely.

Speaker: Richard Lukesh, Lukesh Consulting Group

Richard J. Lukesh, CMHR has more than 40 years of Human Resource, Sales, and Operations experience working as an executive and a consultant for 200-plus organizations varying in size from five to 2,500 employees. Rich has worked in a wide range of sectors, everything from start-up and non-profit to retail and manufacturing. He has a solid track record of enhancing organizational culture, resolving conflicts, coaching performance improvements, and building company profitability through the implementation of Human Capital programs and strategies.

Known for his contrarian management views that deliver results, not bureaucracy, Rich has firsthand experience in developing and growing a business. As Managing Partner of a healthcare business, he grew his company in seven years from a local operation with 30 employees to a multi-site operation with more than 450 employees in 10 states. Rich holds an MBA from Wilkes University and has published numerous white papers, books, and articles on Human Resource topics ranging from sales and recruitment to building employee loyalty and customer satisfaction.
